Traveling With Dogs
A dog-friendly trip is planned around the animal's safety and routine, not just whether a destination allows pets.
Prepare Identification and Records
Use current tags and microchip information. Carry vaccination records, medication details, veterinary contacts, a recent photograph, and any health or behavior information needed in an emergency.
Use Safe Vehicle Restraint
Choose an appropriate secured crate or tested restraint system. Keep the dog away from airbags, loose cargo, open windows, and areas that become dangerously hot.
Plan Stops and Overnight Stays
Confirm pet rules, fees, size limits, vaccination requirements, relief areas, and nearby veterinary care. Schedule water, exercise, feeding, and medication around the dog's normal needs.
Protect Against Heat and Escape
Never rely on a cracked window or a quick errand. Use leashes before doors open, check collars and harnesses, and assign one person to manage the dog during loading and unloading.
