Define Each Claimed Condition
List each condition separately and identify whether the theory is direct, secondary, aggravated, presumptive, or another recognized basis. Do not combine unrelated symptoms into one vague statement.
For every condition, create a short timeline showing service events, onset, treatment, diagnosis, progression, and present limitations.
Build Evidence Around the Elements
Evidence may include service treatment records, personnel records, private and VA medical records, diagnostic testing, medication history, competent medical opinions, and statements from the veteran or witnesses.
More pages do not automatically create a stronger claim. The file should make relevant facts easy to locate and understand.
Track Every Submission
Keep a copy of every form and attachment, the date submitted, confirmation, mailing record, upload receipt, and any later correspondence.
Read requests and decisions line by line. Deadlines and available review lanes depend on the specific document and current law.
